On Sunday evening (11/17/24), NDPD officers responded to a shots fired complaint near the intersection of HWY 99W and 11th Street in Dundee. The caller reported witnessing two vehicles possibly involved in a road rage incident in which one of the occupants shot at the other vehicle. The caller provided a description of the vehicles involved and said they were traveling towards Newberg. An NDPD officer intercepted a vehicle matching the description as it sped recklessly through downtown Newberg.
A man has been shot and killed in the Wilkes neighborhood. On Monday, November 18, 2024, at 5:46 p.m., officers from the North Precinct responded to the 15900 block of Northeast Fremont Street on reports of gunfire in the area. While officers were responding, they were told that a victim had been found. When officers arrived at the location, they found a male victim who died at the scene. An Oregon Department of Corrections (DOC) adult in custody, Robert Gary Gammell, died November 11, 2024. Gammell was incarcerated at Snake River Correctional Institution (SRCI) in Ontario and passed away at the institution. As with all in-custody deaths, the Oregon State Police have been notified, and the State Medical Examiner will determine cause of death.Gammell entered DOC custody on July 7, 2020, from Marion County with an earliest release date of November 3, 2028. Gammell was 68 years old.
The victim of an assault in the Kerns Neighborhood bar has died. The victim is identified as Samuel M. Van Dyke, 31, of Portland. His family has been notified of the death. They are requesting privacy at this time, but they did provide the attached photo for public release. The Medical Examiner determined Van Dyke died of homicide associated to injuries sustained during the assault.
